Business Days Between Dates

Count Monday through Friday between two calendar dates. You can optionally remove observed US federal holidays and decide whether the ending date belongs in the total.

Holiday policy

Federal-holiday mode uses standard observed US federal holidays. It does not include company, state, school, banking, or court calendars.

How it works

The default count includes Monday through Friday and leaves out Saturday and Sunday. Select the federal-holiday policy when you want standard observed US federal holidays removed as well.

Examples

  • Monday, March 2 to Friday, March 6 is 4 business days when the end date is excluded.
  • The same range is 5 business days when the end date is included.
  • Friday, July 3, 2026 is excluded under the US federal-holiday policy because Independence Day is observed that day.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a business day?

A business day is Monday through Friday. Weekends are always excluded.

Which holidays can I exclude?

Choose “US federal holidays” to exclude the standard observed federal holidays, including Juneteenth from 2021 onward. This is not a payroll, banking, school, or legal-deadline calendar.

What does including the end date mean?

It counts the end date if that date is a business day under the selected policy. For the same qualifying date, that produces one business day rather than zero.
